Snapato Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 2026

Snapato is a screenshot, screen recording, and OCR desktop app. We understand that what's on your screen is often your most sensitive information, so Snapato is built on a "local-first processing" principle: everything you create is processed and stored on your own device. This policy explains how the app handles data, which system permissions it uses, and the control you have.

Your Content Stays On Your Device

All core features — screenshots, scrolling capture, screen recording, OCR text recognition, and magic erase — run entirely on your device:

  • OCR uses your operating system's built-in recognition engine (macOS Vision / Windows Media.OCR);
  • Magic erase runs on a built-in on-device model;
  • Images and videos are saved only to locations you choose, or to your system clipboard.

The app never sends your screenshots, recordings, audio, or recognized text to any server, and offers no cloud backup or sync.

Anonymous Usage Analytics

To keep improving stability and the overall experience, the app includes anonymous usage analytics that you can turn off at any time (on by default):

  • What we collect: app launch and version information, feature usage (e.g., success and failure counts of screenshots and recordings, types of tools used), setting changes (only the before and after values of an option, never the content), trial quota consumption, and basic categories of crashes and errors.
  • What we never collect: any content such as screenshots, recordings, or audio; text recognized by OCR; watermark text; keyboard input; file names and paths; or any information that could directly identify you.

Analytics are associated only with a random, anonymous installation identifier. They are not linked to any personal information, are not used for advertising or tracking, and are never shared with or sold to third parties. You can disable anonymous analytics at any time in the app's Settings — reporting stops immediately.

System Permissions

The app only requests the system permissions it needs to function. You can review or revoke them at any time in System Settings:

• Screen Recording — for region capture, scrolling capture, and screen recording;
• Microphone — only when you enable microphone audio in a recording;
• Camera — only invoked when you actively use a related feature;
• Accessibility — for triggering capture via global keyboard shortcuts.

About Purchases

Pro features are unlocked via in-app purchases through the Mac App Store. The entire payment process is handled by Apple; we do not collect, store, or process any of your payment information.

Information Storage and Security

Snapato has no account system — no sign-up or login is required. Apart from the anonymous analytics described in Section 2, we store no data about you on any server. App logs are kept only on your device (e.g., ~/Library/Logs/Snapato/ on macOS) for troubleshooting and are never uploaded automatically.

Protection of Minors

We care about the privacy of minors and do not knowingly collect personal information from minors. If you are a minor, please use this app under the supervision of a legal guardian.

Updates to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. For significant changes, we will notify you through in-app notices or this page.
